LiveClickUp WBS: Work Breakdown Structure Codes for Structured Tasks
Give every task its place in your work breakdown structure, as codes like 1, 1.2 and 1.2.3, so deliverables are easy to reference, report on and keep in order. The Render WBS Mapper works out the code from the task tree and writes it back to ClickUp.
Flat Cost
Codes by Rule, Not by Meter.
Work breakdown codes are worked out by code from your task tree, not by an AI model, so mapping a project never uses AI credits and there is no AI tier to upgrade to. The same tree always produces the same codes.
- No AI credits consumed
- No Make or Zapier license needed
- No scenarios to build, test or monitor
- No AI add-on tier to upgrade to
What It Does
ClickUp Work Breakdown Structure, Done Properly
A numbered structure your whole team can reference.
Codes From the Task Tree
Choose the root and the Mapper works out each task's position beneath it: 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2.1 and so on, in a predictable order.
Written Where You Want Them
Put the code in the task name using a template, in a custom field, or both, with your own separators and tokens.
Preview Before Anything Changes
See the exact name and field value each task will get before anything is written to ClickUp. The preview uses the same logic as the live run.
Stays Right as Work Changes
New subtasks are numbered under their parent, and moves in the tree are found by scheduled scans, so codes follow the structure.
Rebuild on Your Terms
Renumber a whole list only when you choose to. The rebuild is checked again before it writes and stops if the tree changed after you approved it.
Searchable History
Find a code, a task or a title across past renumberings, with a clear list of anything a person needs to resolve.
How It Works
How ClickUp WBS Numbering Works
Set up once in Render. The automation itself stays in ClickUp.
Connect and Choose a List
Connect ClickUp and create a configuration for the list that holds your tasks.
Choose Your Format
Pick the numbering style, where the codes are written and how often Render checks the tree.
Preview, Then Activate
Review the codes and the exact text that will be written, then turn it on.
Add the Trigger
Use a ClickUp automation that calls Render, or let Render watch the list on a schedule, then run it once to take the first scan.

FAQ
Questions About WBS Mapper
Not here? Ask us.
Does it renumber automatically when I move tasks?
New and renamed tasks update promptly. A move in the hierarchy is found by a scheduled scan, because ClickUp does not send an event for it. A full renumber is a rebuild you preview and approve.
Will approving a rebuild change something I did not review?
No. Before it writes, Render checks the tree again and compares it with what you reviewed. If anything changed, it stops and writes nothing.
Can I preview without changing anything?
Yes. The preview uses the same logic as the live run and writes nothing, and it shows the exact text each task will get.
What if a write only half succeeds?
Render shows what landed and what did not, does not roll anything back, and retries only the missing writes.
Can I find an old code?
Yes. Search by code, task or title across past renumberings. A code is a position, so it may have belonged to a different task at another time.
Does it use AI?
No. Codes are worked out by fixed rules from your task tree, so there are no AI credits to track.
