ClickUp for Construction: Control the Schedule, the Paperwork and the Subs

ClickUp can run construction project controls when it is configured for them. Gantt view and dependencies carry the schedule, Forms capture RFIs and submittals with file uploads, relationship and formula fields track cost, and guests give subcontractors limited access. It is not estimating or accounting software, and offline support on mobile is partial. This guide shows the configuration we build.

What ClickUp Does Today

What You Can Do Natively

Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.

Schedule and Dependencies

Gantt view, dependencies, milestones and a rescheduling option that cascades date changes. See our project planning guide.

Forms for RFIs and Submittals

A Form creates a task for each submission and accepts file uploads. Forms can be shared by link or embedded in a website.

Cost Tracking With Fields

Number and formula fields track budget, committed and actual cost, and relationship fields with rollups total them by project or trade.

Subcontractor Access

Guests can be given view, comment or edit permission on specific items, so subcontractors see their own work and not the whole job.

Where It Falls Short

The Gaps People Run Into

If these are your problem, keep reading.

  • ClickUp is not estimating, takeoff or accounting software. Cost fields track what you enter, and the books stay in your finance system.
  • Offline support on mobile is partial, so do not assume a site without signal can create or search tasks.
  • RFI and submittal numbering and approval rules are built by configuration, not provided as a ready-made log.
  • Guest permissions and seat allowances depend on your plan, so check them against the number of subcontractors.
  • A schedule only cascades when dependencies are entered, so linking discipline matters.

FAQ

Common Questions

Not here? Ask us.

Can ClickUp be used for construction project management?

Yes, when configured for it. It handles schedules, logs, forms and reporting. It is not estimating or accounting software.

Can ClickUp track RFIs and submittals?

Yes, with Forms that create tasks, statuses for each stage and a dashboard of what is open and late.

Can subcontractors use it?

Yes, as guests with permission levels from view only to edit, on the items shared with them.

Does it work on site without signal?

Offline support on mobile is partial, so we do not rely on it for creating tasks without a connection.

Can it track project costs?

It tracks the numbers you enter with fields and rollups. Accounting stays in your finance system.

Can you build this for our firm?

Yes. We design, build, pilot and train. See also our asset tracking guide for equipment.
