ClickUp Certificate Generator: Issue Numbered, Verifiable Certificates From Tasks

ClickUp does not have a certificate feature. Teams usually build each one by hand in a design tool, then attach it to the task. This guide shows the native options and how to issue a numbered PDF certificate straight from a task, with a QR code anyone can scan to check it is genuine.

What ClickUp Does Today

What You Can Do Natively

Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.

Print or Export

You can print a task to PDF from your browser, or export a Doc to PDF. Both give you the screen as it looks, not a designed certificate.

Doc Templates

A Doc can be saved as a template so a layout is reused, but names, dates and course titles still have to be typed in.

Attach a Finished File

You can attach a certificate you made elsewhere to the task, one at a time.

Fine for a Handful

For a few certificates a year, a design template and a manual attach may be all you need.

Where It Falls Short

The Gaps People Run Into

If these are your problem, keep reading.

  • There is no certificate number, so numbering is a manual list that goes out of date.
  • Nothing lets someone check that a printed certificate is real.
  • Expiry, revoking and reissuing are tracked in a spreadsheet, if at all.
  • Every certificate is made by hand, so mistakes in names and dates creep in.
  • Nothing attaches the finished file back to the task for you.

Worked Example

Example: A Certificate Register

Every certificate issued is recorded with its number, dates and current status. A scan of the QR code shows the same status. Values are illustrative.

How Render Does It

Set It Up Once

Render turns a task into a certificate, numbers it, records it and lets anyone verify it.

1

Number Each Certificate

Create a series such as CERT-{YYYY}-{counter} with the Sequencer, written to a custom field on the task.

2

Design the Certificate

Upload your existing certificate as a PDF, PNG or JPEG background, or build the layout from scratch. Place the name, course, dates and number from the task fields.

3

Add Expiry and a QR Code

Compute a valid-until date, such as issue date plus two years, and add a QR code that opens a public verification page.

4

Choose What Goes Back

Attach the PDF to the task, write the verification link to a field, add a comment and set a status such as Issued.

5

Trigger It From ClickUp

Add a ClickUp automation that calls the output's webhook when a task reaches the status you chose, then run it once on a real task to test.

FAQ

Common Questions

Not here? Ask us.

Does ClickUp have a certificate generator?

There is no built-in one. You can print a task or export a Doc, or attach a certificate you designed elsewhere.

How can someone check a certificate is genuine?

They scan the QR code. It opens a public page showing whether the certificate is valid, revoked or expired, with the reference number, dates and issuer. It never shows the certificate's contents.

Can certificates expire or be revoked?

Yes. You can set a valid-until date, revoke a certificate with a reason and reinstate it later. The reason you give on a revocation is shown on the public page, so word it with that in mind.

Can I use my own certificate design?

Yes. Upload it as a PDF, PNG or JPEG and place the task values on top, or build a layout in Render. Word and Google Docs templates are not supported, and the output is a PDF.

Does Render email the certificate?

No. It attaches the PDF to the task. Sending it is a separate step.

How do I issue certificates in bulk?

Each certificate comes from one task, so bulk issuing means one task per person. Once the output is set up, each task that reaches your trigger status produces its own certificate.
