ClickUp Google Calendar Sync: How It Works and Why It Goes Wrong

ClickUp can sync tasks with Google Calendar in both directions, but the rules about dates are strict and the sync is not instant. Most "it is not working" reports come down to a handful of causes. This guide explains how the sync works and how to avoid the common problems.

What ClickUp Does Today

What You Can Do Natively

Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.

What Syncs

Tasks with a start or due date appear in Google Calendar, and Google events appear in ClickUp's calendar. It is described as two-way, and changes to the name and the start and due dates sync.

Dates Need Care

A task needs a start or due date to sync. Dates without times become all-day events, and a due time with no start time starts at midnight in Google.

Changes Take Minutes

Updates can take several minutes to appear, so editing again straight away can create confusion.

Newer Options

ClickUp added a new calendar integration in early 2025, and Google Calendar automations that create, update or delete events from task changes.

Where It Falls Short

The Gaps People Run Into

If these are your problem, keep reading.

  • Recurring tasks show only the current instance in Google Calendar.
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting can leave old events in Google that you have to delete by hand.
  • Users still report two-way sync problems on ClickUp's feedback board, such as delays, midnight start times and orphaned events.
  • A task with no date never appears.
  • Which fields the newer integration syncs in both directions should be checked in a trial.

How Kodavara Consulting Does It

Set It Up Once

We set calendar sync up so it behaves, and write the rules down so your team follows them.

1

Decide What Should Sync

Choose which Lists and which kinds of task belong on a calendar, and whether events should flow back.

2

Standardize Dates

Agree a rule for start dates, due dates and times, so events land where people expect.

3

Connect Once, Carefully

Use one integration, and use calendar automations only where they add something.

4

Clean Up Leftovers

Remove duplicate and orphaned events before you start fresh.

5

Document and Test

Test with a handful of real tasks, write the rules down and check again after a week.
