ClickUp OKRs and Goals: Connect Objectives to the Work That Moves Them
ClickUp Goals supports four target types: number, currency, true or false and task. Goals can be organised into Goal Folders, which need Business or above and are how OKRs are usually modelled. There is no native OKR scoring or confidence object, and Goals usage is capped on the lowest plan. This guide shows the structure and the check-in routine we build.

What ClickUp Does Today
What You Can Do Natively
Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.
Targets
Goals use number, currency, true or false and task targets, so a key result can be a metric, a yes or no, or the completion of tasks.
Goal Folders
Goal Folders, available on Business and above, group Goals. A common pattern is a folder for each objective, with the key results as Goals inside it.
Link to Work
Task targets tie a key result to the tasks that deliver it, so progress follows the work.
Dashboards
Goal progress can be shown on Dashboards for reviews and leadership reporting.
Where It Falls Short
The Gaps People Run Into
If these are your problem, keep reading.
- ClickUp has no native OKR object, scoring or confidence rating, so those are built with fields or check-in tasks.
- Goals usage is limited on the lowest plan, and users have asked ClickUp to change that use-based model.
- Targets that are not measurable cannot be tracked, so the work is mostly in writing good key results.
- Without a check-in routine, goals go stale after the first month.
- Goals need owners and dates, or they stay aspirational.
Worked Example
Example: One Objective
An objective with key results. Values are illustrative.
| Level | Example | Target Type |
|---|---|---|
| Objective (Goal folder) | Grow repeat business | None |
| Key result 1 | Raise repeat revenue to 400,000 | Currency |
| Key result 2 | Reach 60 repeat customers | Number |
| Key result 3 | Launch the loyalty programme | True or false |
| Key result 4 | Complete the launch task list | Task |
Sample data for illustration.
The Configuration
The Configuration: What We Build and Monitor
Designed around your planning cycle and how people actually review progress.
| Layer | What We Build | What We Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Goal folders by company, team and quarter with a naming convention | Orphaned or duplicate goals |
| Key Results | Measurable targets with owners, baselines and due dates | Unmeasurable results |
| Work Links | Task targets or links connecting key results to projects | Goals with no work behind them |
| Check-Ins | A weekly or fortnightly check-in task with confidence and notes fields | Stale goals |
| Review | A dashboard for the quarterly review | Reports that disagree with reality |
| Plan Fit | A check that the plan allows the Goals usage you need | Hitting usage caps |
