Kodavara Guide
ClickUp for Incident Response: Coordinate the Response and Learn from It
When something breaks, people need the same plan every time. ClickUp can hold the incident process: an incident template with roles and checklists, severity-driven due dates, a communications task list and a post-incident review. It is not a monitoring, alerting or SIEM tool, and it should not be the only place your response depends on. This guide shows the configuration we build.

What ClickUp Does Today
What You Can Do Natively
Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.
Incident Template
A task or Folder template creates the same checklists, roles and tasks for each incident, with the parts you choose.
Severity and Due Dates
Severity fields and automations set owners and due dates, with automations that react when a due date arrives.
Roles and Checklists
Checklists assign incident commander, communications and technical lead tasks with owners.
Post-Incident Review
A review task and Doc capture timeline, cause and actions, with follow-up tasks tracked to closure.
Where It Falls Short
The Gaps People Run Into
If these are your problem, keep reading.
- ClickUp is not a monitoring, alerting, ticket-paging or SIEM tool. Alerts and on-call paging live in the tools built for them.
- During an outage ClickUp may be unavailable or slow to reach, so keep the essential runbook where your response does not depend on one tool.
- Audit logs are available only on the Enterprise plan.
- Evidence handling and legal requirements are outside a task tool, so follow your own policies.
- Automation allowances depend on your plan, so incident automations should be lean.
Worked Example
Example: Severity and Response
Illustrative levels. Values are illustrative.
| Severity | Meaning | First Response |
|---|---|---|
| SEV1 | Major outage or data exposure | Page on-call, incident commander named |
| SEV2 | Significant degradation | Response within the hour |
| SEV3 | Limited impact | Same day |
| SEV4 | Minor issue | Backlog |
| Review | After any SEV1 or SEV2 | Post-incident review in 5 days |
Sample data for illustration.
The Configuration
The Configuration: What We Build and Monitor
Designed around your systems, roles and escalation rules. This is workflow design, not security advice.
| Layer | What We Build | What We Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Incident Template | A template with severity, roles, timeline and communications checklists | Incidents opened without the template |
| Intake | A Form or a link from your alerting tool that creates the incident task | Incidents entering outside the flow |
| Roles | Role tasks with named owners and backups | Unassigned roles |
| Communications | Internal and external update tasks on a set cadence | Updates overdue |
| Post-Incident Review | A review Doc and action tasks with owners and due dates | Actions not completed |
| Reporting | A dashboard of incidents by severity, time to resolve and open actions | Repeat incidents |

FAQ
Common Questions

Does it keep an audit log?
Audit logs are available only on the Enterprise plan.
How do we make sure follow-up actions get done?
As tasks with owners and due dates, tracked on a dashboard. See our process automation guide.
