Intercom and ClickUp: Turn Conversations into Work for the Right Team
ClickUp has a native app in the Intercom App Store. From the inbox, an agent can create a ClickUp task from a conversation or link existing tasks, and each task links back to the conversation. It is agent-driven, not a background sync. This guide covers what it gives you and the configuration we build for reliable escalation.

What ClickUp Does Today
What You Can Do Natively
Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.
Intercom App
Install the ClickUp app from the Intercom App Store, then authorise your ClickUp Workspaces.
Create or Link
From a conversation, an agent creates a task by choosing a List, title and description, or links one or more existing tasks by searching.
Link Back
Created or linked tasks carry a link back to the Intercom conversation, and a default List can be set in the app settings.
Who Can Use It
It is listed on every ClickUp plan. Only Workspace owners and admins can manage it, and guests and limited members cannot use it.
Where It Falls Short
The Gaps People Run Into
If these are your problem, keep reading.
- Escalation depends on an agent using the app, so it is not automatic.
- It does not by itself keep task status in step with the conversation, so agents may need a manual check or a flow you build.
- There is no routing by topic, so someone must decide which List and owner a conversation belongs to.
- Unito and Zapier can automate or sync both ways, but they add cost and need maintaining.
- Without a standard, bug reports arrive with different levels of detail.
Worked Example
Example: A Bug Report Task
What an escalated conversation usually carries. Values are illustrative.
| Field | Source | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Conversation link | Intercom | Jump back to the customer thread |
| Customer and plan | Intercom | Prioritise by account |
| Severity | Agent choice | Sets owner and due date |
| Steps to reproduce | Agent notes | Saves engineering time |
| Status | ClickUp | Visible to the team that fixes it |
Sample data for illustration.
The Configuration
The Configuration: What We Build and Monitor
We use the native app and add routing, standards and reporting.
| Part | What We Build | What We Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Escalation Lists | A List per destination, such as bugs, feature requests and billing, with severity and area fields | Wrong List chosen |
| Default and Routing | A default List and automations that set owner and due date by severity and area | Misrouted tasks |
| Agent Guide | A short rule for when to escalate and what to include | Thin bug reports |
| Status Return | If agents need updates in Intercom, a flow built and tested | Status changes not reaching the team |
| Access | Which agents have ClickUp seats, since guests and limited members cannot use the app | Agents without access |
| Reporting | A dashboard of open escalations, age and time to resolve | Aging items |
