ClickUp and Zendesk: Escalate Support Tickets to the Team That Fixes Them
ClickUp has two native Zendesk routes. The Marketplace app lets an agent create a ClickUp task from a ticket or link existing tasks. Zendesk Sync, in beta on Business Plus and Enterprise, creates tasks for tickets in a dedicated Space and syncs updates between them. This guide covers what each gives you and the configuration we build around them.

What ClickUp Does Today
What You Can Do Natively
Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.
Zendesk Marketplace App
Installed from the Zendesk side, the app adds a panel in each ticket for creating or linking ClickUp tasks. It is listed on all ClickUp plans, and owners and admins manage it.
Create or Link
An agent can create a task pre-filled with ticket details, assignee and due date, or link existing tasks. Many tasks can attach to one ticket.
Status in the Ticket
Linked tasks show their status and ID inside the ticket, and the links update automatically.
Zendesk Sync (Beta)
On Business Plus and Enterprise, Zendesk Sync creates a task for every ticket in a Zendesk Space. Name, status, description, priority and internal notes (as comments) sync both ways. Tags, type, channel and requester details sync one way. Beta access is requested through the App Center.
Where It Falls Short
The Gaps People Run Into
If these are your problem, keep reading.
- The Marketplace app is agent-initiated. Automatic task creation and syncing come from Zendesk Sync, which is in beta and needs Business Plus or Enterprise.
- Zendesk Sync turns every ticket into a task, so a busy helpdesk needs views and filters to keep the Space usable and a rule for which tickets matter to engineering.
- Sync covers the fields ClickUp and Zendesk document, so anything else, such as severity or customer plan, needs fields and rules built on top.
- There is no built-in routing, so someone must decide which List and owner a ticket belongs to.
- Reporting on escalation volume and time to fix needs custom fields and dashboards built on top.
Worked Example
Example: Escalation Fields
What an escalated task usually carries. Values are illustrative.
| Field | Source | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Ticket link | Zendesk | Jump back to the customer thread |
| Customer and plan | Zendesk | Prioritise by account |
| Severity | Agent choice | Sets due date and owner |
| Steps to reproduce | Agent notes | Saves engineering time |
| Status | ClickUp | Visible to the agent in the ticket |
Sample data for illustration.
The Configuration
The Configuration: What We Build and Monitor
We use the native app where it fits and add routing and reporting.
| Part | What We Build | What We Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Escalation List | A dedicated List or Space with severity, product area and customer fields | Required fields left empty |
| Routing | Automations that assign owner and due date by severity and area | Misrouted tasks |
| Agent Guide | A one-page rule for when to escalate and what to include | Low-quality escalations |
| Return Path | If you need automatic updates back to the ticket, a Zendesk trigger or webhook flow built and tested | Status changes not reaching the ticket |
| Reporting | A dashboard of open escalations, age and time to resolve | Aging items |
| Access | Which agents have ClickUp seats, since guests cannot use the app | Agents without access |
How Kodavara Consulting Does It
Set It Up Once
We set up the app, the routing and the reporting so escalations do not stall.
Define the Escalation Path
We agree when a ticket becomes a task and who owns it.
Install and Test the App
We install it from Zendesk and test create and link flows.
Build the Escalation List
We add fields, statuses and routing rules.
Close the Loop
We decide whether status must write back to the ticket and build it if so.
Train and Report
We train agents and build the dashboard.
FAQ
Common Questions
Not here? Ask us.
Does ClickUp integrate with Zendesk?
Yes, in two ways: a Marketplace app for creating and linking tasks from tickets, and Zendesk Sync, a beta that syncs tickets and tasks.
Is escalation automatic?
The Marketplace app is agent-initiated. Zendesk Sync creates tasks for tickets automatically. Selective escalation by severity or customer needs rules we build.
Do comments sync?
Not with the Marketplace app. Zendesk Sync syncs Zendesk internal notes with ClickUp comments, and we test the behaviour for your setup.
Does closing the task close the ticket?
With Zendesk Sync, status syncs both ways. We test it against your Zendesk statuses and add rules where you need them.
Which ClickUp plans work?
The Marketplace app is listed on all plans. Zendesk Sync is in beta on Business Plus and Enterprise. Owners and admins manage them, and guests and limited members cannot use the app.
When is a custom build better?
When you need selective escalation by severity or customer, rules beyond the documented fields, or reporting across both tools.
