ClickUp Client Time Reports: A Monthly Billable Hours Report by Client

ClickUp has a Billable report card for your Dashboards. If you bill by the hour, you probably also want hours rounded to your billing increment, a client code beside every entry, and a tidy report per client. This guide covers what ClickUp does natively and how to produce the rest on a schedule.

What ClickUp Does Today

What You Can Do Natively

Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.

The Billable Report Card

Add it from a Dashboard: Add card, Time Tracking, Billable Report. It lists billable time entries, can be filtered on several properties, and can be grouped, for example by List or Folder.

The Billable Flag

Time entries carry a billable flag, which is what the Billable report and Timesheets use. Total, billable and non-billable time are all available as measures.

Time Estimates and Tracked Time

Time estimated and time tracked are native task fields, so you can compare planned and actual hours.

Exporting the Card

Time tracking cards can be exported, with CSV time formats including hh:mm:ss, decimal hours, ISO 8601 and milliseconds.

Where It Falls Short

The Gaps People Run Into

If these are your problem, keep reading.

  • ClickUp does not round time entries natively. A request to round to 5, 15 or 20 minute intervals is still open on ClickUp's feedback board, so most teams round in a spreadsheet.
  • A per-client report with your own client code and billing increments usually means exporting and editing the file by hand.
  • Reports start with a person, so month-end depends on someone remembering to run them.
  • ClickUp has no native billing rate or invoice-style report, so rates and totals are worked out elsewhere.
  • One workbook per client is manual work.

Worked Example

Example: A Monthly Client Summary

Each time entry is rounded up to 15 minutes first, then hours are totalled by client. This is the kind of summary a billing contact can review in a minute.

Moving ClickUp Data Into Another System?

DataFlow maps, reshapes, scrubs and transforms raw ClickUp data so the system on the other end accepts it. Durations become hours, dates change format and status values are mapped.

What the video shows

Raw ClickUp values on the left, such as a duration of 9,000,000 ms, the date Sep 7, 2026 and a status of In Progress. On the right, what the receiving system needs: 2.50 hours, 2026-09-07 and ACTIVE. DataFlow sits in between and does the conversion, so the exported file arrives ready to use.

How DataFlow Does It

Set It Up Once

DataFlow turns time entries into a report once, then reruns it every month.

1

Start From the Invoice-Ready Template

Create a DataFlow with time entries as the row type, using the invoice-ready time template.

2

Scope It to Client Work

Pick the Folders or Lists that hold each client's work and the month to cover.

3

Round and Format Hours

Show duration as decimal hours and round each entry to your billing increment: 5, 6, 10, 15 or 30 minutes, up, down or to the nearest.

4

Total by Client and Split the Workbook

Bring a client code from a custom field beside each entry, total hours by client, project or person, and give each client its own Excel tab.

5

Schedule It

Run it monthly on the last day of the month and email the download link to whoever bills.

FAQ

Common Questions

Not here? Ask us.

Can ClickUp group time by client?

The Billable report can be filtered and grouped, for example by List or Folder. If your clients map to Folders or Lists, that works natively. A client code held in a custom field needs more work.

Does ClickUp round time to 15 minutes?

No. ClickUp does not round time entries natively, and the request is still open on its feedback board.

Does DataFlow use ClickUp's billable flag?

Not currently. DataFlow reports on the time entries in the scope you choose. Use ClickUp's own Billable report when you need the billable flag.

Does DataFlow calculate invoice amounts?

It produces hours by client and the file you need to invoice from. Rates and invoicing happen in your own billing tool.

Can each client get a separate file?

Yes. Excel output can put each client on its own tab, which you can then split or share.

Does it change my time entries?

No. It only exports. Rounding and formatting apply to the report, and your ClickUp data is untouched.
