ClickUp Time Tracking Export: CSV, Decimal Hours and Billing Rounding

ClickUp can export time tracking data from Dashboard cards, with a choice of time formats. Billing teams often need more: rounding to billing increments, a client code beside every entry and a workbook per client. This guide covers both routes.

What ClickUp Does Today

What You Can Do Natively

Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.

Export From Time Tracking Cards

In a Dashboard, the Time Reporting, Billable Report and Timesheet cards can be exported. Switch the Dashboard to edit mode and open the card's menu to find Export.

Choose Your Formats

Exports can be CSV, PDF or PNG. CSV durations can be hh:mm:ss, decimal hours, ISO 8601 or milliseconds.

Billable Filtering

You can choose which entries to include, billable or non-billable, and the CSV has a billable column showing TRUE or FALSE.

Permissions

On Enterprise plans, exporting from these cards can be limited to certain roles using a custom Exporting permission.

Where It Falls Short

The Gaps People Run Into

If these are your problem, keep reading.

  • ClickUp does not round time entries natively. Rounding to a billing increment such as 15 minutes is a request that is still open on ClickUp's feedback board, so teams usually round in a spreadsheet.
  • Adding a client code from a custom field beside each entry often means editing the file by hand.
  • Exports start with a person, so month-end billing depends on someone remembering to run them.
  • One workbook per client is manual work.
  • ClickUp's feedback board has requests for better time formats and spreadsheet exports.

Worked Example

Example: Billing Hours Rounded Up to 15 Minutes

Rounding is applied to each entry, then the entries are totalled per client. A 1 hour 12 minute entry becomes 1.25 hours, and a 29 minute entry becomes 0.50.

Moving ClickUp Data Into Another System?

DataFlow maps, reshapes, scrubs and transforms raw ClickUp data so the system on the other end accepts it. Durations become hours, dates change format and status values are mapped.

What the video shows

Raw ClickUp values on the left, such as a duration of 9,000,000 ms, the date Sep 7, 2026 and a status of In Progress. On the right, what the receiving system needs: 2.50 hours, 2026-09-07 and ACTIVE. DataFlow sits in between and does the conversion, so the exported file arrives ready to use.

How DataFlow Does It

Set It Up Once

DataFlow treats each time entry as a row, so you shape the billing file once and rerun it every month.

1

Start From a Template

Create a DataFlow from the invoice-ready time template, with time entries as the row type.

2

Choose the Work and the Dates

Pick the Folder or Lists that hold client work, and the date range to cover.

3

Set Hours and Rounding

Show duration as decimal hours with the number of decimals you want, and round each entry up, down or to the nearest 5, 6, 10, 15 or 30 minutes.

4

Add the Client Code and Group

Bring a client code from a custom field beside every entry, rename the headers and total hours per client. Excel can give each client its own tab.

5

Preview and Schedule

Check 25 rows, then run it monthly on the last day and have the link emailed to whoever does the billing.

FAQ

Common Questions

Not here? Ask us.

Can ClickUp export time in decimal hours?

Yes. Time tracking card exports can use decimal hours as well as hh:mm:ss, ISO 8601 and milliseconds.

Does ClickUp round time entries for billing?

No. ClickUp does not round time entries natively, and a request for it is still open on ClickUp's feedback board. Teams round in a spreadsheet, or use a tool that does it.

Does DataFlow change my time entries in ClickUp?

No. It only exports. Rounding and formatting apply to the file, and your ClickUp data is untouched.

Does DataFlow round the total or each entry?

Each entry. Rounding each entry gives a different result from rounding the total, so check which one your billing agreement uses.

Does DataFlow filter on ClickUp's billable flag?

Not currently. DataFlow exports the time entries in the scope you choose. Use ClickUp's Billable Report if you need the billable flag, or ask us about your case.

Does it connect to QuickBooks or FreshBooks?

No. DataFlow produces the file and you import it. It does not connect to accounting tools.
