Microsoft Teams and ClickUp: Turn Chat into Tracked Work

ClickUp has a native Microsoft Teams integration. It creates tasks from Teams channels, attaches Teams messages to tasks, shows link previews and syncs ClickUp activity into channels. Activity sync posts to public channels only, and it does not replace personal notifications. This guide covers what works today and the configuration we build so channels stay useful.

What ClickUp Does Today

What You Can Do Natively

Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.

Tasks From Teams

Create ClickUp tasks from messages in Teams channels and direct messages, and attach Teams messages to existing tasks, so decisions made in chat are not lost.

Link Previews

ClickUp tasks, comments and Docs shared in Teams show rich previews, and Teams links show previews inside ClickUp.

Activity Sync to Channels

ClickUp activity can post into a Teams channel, scoped to the Spaces, Folders and Lists you choose.

Task Search

A ClickUp add-in lets people search for a task from inside Teams.

Where It Falls Short

The Gaps People Run Into

If these are your problem, keep reading.

  • Activity sync can post to public channels you are in, but not to private channels, so confidential work needs a different route.
  • Channel activity sync is not the same as personal notifications, so people can still miss work assigned to them.
  • Teams apps generally need approval from a Microsoft 365 administrator, so rollout depends on your IT team.
  • Activity sync to channels uses a personal connection, so each person who sets it up connects their own account. Workspace owners and admins can add a Workspace connection for shared Connected Search. Guests and limited members cannot use the integration, and a Microsoft 365 administrator may need to approve the app.
  • Without rules, a busy channel fills with updates that people mute.
