QuickBooks, Xero and ClickUp: Getting from Tracked Time to Invoices

ClickUp has a QuickBooks Online Sync, labelled beta and listed for Business Plus and Enterprise, covering customers, products and services and invoices. It does not sync time entries, which people often expect. There is no native Xero integration. This guide covers the options and the billing configuration we build.

What ClickUp Does Today

What You Can Do Natively

Start with the features available on your ClickUp plan.

QuickBooks Online Sync

A native integration, labelled beta, on Business Plus and Enterprise. Customers sync two way. Products and invoices come from QuickBooks to ClickUp, and the exact direction should be checked in the current help article.

Time Does Not Sync

Time tracked in ClickUp does not flow to QuickBooks natively, and users have requested it on the feedback board.

Xero

There is no native Xero integration. Routes are Zapier, Make, Unito and similar tools, and the request has been open for years.

Time-to-Invoice Tools

Tools such as Everhour track time in ClickUp, apply rates and export invoices to QuickBooks or Xero.

Where It Falls Short

The Gaps People Run Into

If these are your problem, keep reading.

  • The native QuickBooks sync is about customers and invoices, not time, so hours to invoice is a gap to design for.
  • It is beta, so scope and behaviour may change.
  • Xero connections depend on third parties with their own costs and mapping.
  • Rates, tax and invoice approval are not ClickUp features and need an external process or a tool.
  • Time tracking updates through the API have had edge cases, so test edits to existing entries.
